Here Already 2013!

Last night before I switched off the TV I saw a bit of ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’ a science fiction film starring  Arnold Schwarzenegger that was released in 1991.

The setting for the film was 2029 and I guess in 1991 the year 2029 was a terribly long way off….. But this is the end of 2012 and in a few days’ time 2029 will be just 16 short years away, makes you think doesn’t it!

Where does time go? Your guess is as good as mine, but it sure does fly by.

So what is your 2013 going to be looking like what is my 2013 going to be looking like?

In church today someone mentioned the power of the tongue:

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat
its fruit. Proverbs 18:21

That is to say the words we speak shape our lives, that is true whether we believe it or not! Many people profess to be non-believers (i.e. claim not to believe in anything they can’t see, touch and feel) but will caution you not to say negative things as the ‘gods’ may be listening….. Don’t ask me 🙂

Many motivational books have the same theme, take Napoleon Hill’s 1937 ‘Think and Grow Rich’. His title is almost verbatim from the Word of God:

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he……Proverbs 23:7

Well almost. But what I’m trying to say is that come 2013 what we think and what we say about ourselves have profound consequences, they are not just empty words. It is said if you can think it you can achieve it, if you can’t think it…hmm, you need to change your thinking process.

Ever heard of Job another guy in the bible, in his case his worst ‘fears’ came upon him. I reckon he used to sit down each day and think “what is the worst thing that can happen to me?” He probably came up with, “losing my family and my wealth”. What happened? You got it, he lost everything and was left with his wife who told him to curse God and die.

2013 is upon us! Let us begin to think and speak our positive desires into our lives.
2013 can be our year of abundance, our year of plenty, our year of promotions, career advancements and take home pays that take us home. 2013 can be our year of exam success and new impressive qualifications! 2013 can be our year of family tranquillity, of love, peace, harmony and marital bliss, our year of beautiful, handsome well behaved children and lovely cute new born babes. 2013 can be the year our business turns the proverbial corner and we finally arrive :). 2013 can be our year of restoration: restored relationships, restored homes, restored finances, restored love, restored wealth, restored jobs and careers, restored health, restored hope!

2013 can be whatever we desire it to be by the grace of Almighty God, for He has said in His Word that as a man thinketh in his heart so he is and the power of life and death is in our tongues! (My paraphrase)

We can make 2013 our greatest year yet and yes we will make 2013 our greatest year yet. Yes we can, and yes we will!

I know some people will look at the number 13 and say OMG in a non-positive way, and that is exactly why we are pre-empting it. We must not allow any negative thoughts or words to come our way concerning 2013, either our words or someone else’s.

2013 here I come, I align my thoughts with Gods will for my life and good success is my portion, I align my speech with God’s will for my life and 2013 will be my best year yet!

Let’s go folks, let’s make 2013 a real rocker of a year. Yes we can and yes we will! 🙂

Love you loads, LolaA

Lemonade

Everybody knows how to make lemonade, right? Err……maybe?

Perfect Lemonade Recipe

Prep time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • ·         1 cup sugar (can reduce to 3/4 cup)
  • ·         1 cup water (for the simple syrup)
  • ·         1 cup lemon juice
  • ·         3 to 4 cups cold water (to dilute)

Method

1 Make simple syrup by heating the sugar and water in a small saucepan until the sugar is dissolved completely.

2 While the sugar is dissolving, use a juicer to extract the juice from 4 to 6 lemons, enough for one cup of juice.

3 Add the juice and the sugar water to a pitcher. Add 3 to 4 cups of cold water, more or less to the desired strength. Refrigerate 30 to 40 minutes. If the lemonade is a little sweet for your taste, add a little more straight lemon juice to it.

Serve with ice, sliced lemons. Serves 6.

If Only Life Was That Simple!
If only life was as simple as making lemonade. I’m sure we’ve all heard the adage “if life gives you lemons make lemonade”. Yea…Right…but how do you turn life’s lemons into lemonade? What is the perfect recipe and where can it be found?

Life’s Lemons
What are life’s lemons? Life’s lemons are the hurts, the pains, the disappointments, the unexpected, the unbelievable, the ‘let downs’, the failures, the losses, the deaths, the separations, the ‘walk-aways’ (people that just walk away), the inconceivable, the unimaginable, the unthinkable……..the bitterness of life, the acrimony, the anger, and the sour tasting events. The things we want to block out and never ever remember.

To make lemonade you first of all have to cut up the lemons and squeeze out the juice. We squeeze the juice out of life’s lemons by sharing them, sharing our hurts and pains. If we internalise the pain it will only get worse if we share it with a friend, a family member, a counsellor or the greatest Counsellor of all time, the pain will begin to subside. (Just make sure you do your sharing with a trustworthy person who will keep your confidentiality).

From Bitterness to Sweetness
Now we need sugar to sweeten the juice from life’s lemons… In the beginning of Exodus chapter fifteen the Israelites are rejoicing, they have just successfully passed through the red sea and have seen their enemies the Egyptians destroyed in the same red sea, they praise the Lord at the top of their voices. By verse twenty-three however the euphoria has begun to subside and when they encounter bitter water in Marah they give it to Moses full on.
Poor old Moses didn’t have a clue where to get sugar from, but he knew someone who could produce sugar in the blink of an eye. Someone who could turn bitter situations into sweet ones, who could, who can, and who continues to make bitter things sweet. He called upon the Father God, and the Lord showed him a tree which when he put it in the water it became sweet. What a result! That shut the people up, at least for a while. Thankfully the Father God is the same yesterday, today and forever, if He made bitter water sweet back in the day, He can do it in 2012, 2013, 2014; He’ll even do it in 3000AD if you’re still here and care to ask Him. Yea! We just need to ask Him. In this 21st century we might not be throwing trees around, it might just be a Word that the Lord or someone else tells us that changes everything, it might an unexpected but pleasant occurrence, it might be a ‘door’ that miraculously opens, it might be someone showing up, it could be anything cause God does work in mysterious ways His wonders to perform. But perform He does, when we ask Him to. It might not always be the way we want or the way we expect, but trust me when we ask, He performs period.

Water
Now the only thing left to add to our lemonade is water. Where do we get water?
The Word of God is water. Ephesians 5:26 says:

…so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word New American Standard Bible 1995

‘Her’ in this passage is a reference to the Church; the Lord cleanses us through His Word, His Word is truth. When we daily read, study and meditate on the Word of God He refreshes us like a refreshing gulp of lemonade. He nourishes us, like all the vitamin C and goodness in lemons. He gives us a new perspective on life, taking away all the hurts, pains and bitterness.

So when next life chucks a couple of lemons at you, squeeze out the juice, share the pain with someone you trust, ask the Lord for the appropriate sweetener for that situation and get stuck in His Word until you come out victorious on the other side.
Enjoy your lemonade, LolaA J

Broken!

Image

“……Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15

It all seems to be broken, seven billion people and counting walk the face of this earth yet the number of people complaining of loneliness is on the increase.

It’s the information age yet many haven’t a clue what is happening outside their own cocoon. If it’s not on one of their favourite websites, or happening to one of their friends on Facebook or to someone they follow on Twitter, then please accept their apologies but they just didn’t know the shop at the top of the street got burgled two nights ago.

We thought we had conquered war but alas we continue to be inundated with wars and rumours of wars…..Okay some of it is civil unrest, people fighting to overthrow a stable government which in their opinion has passed its sell-by-date, only for a more draconian and anti-people regime to be installed. And some people are just spoiling for a fight, you may think you are safely on the other side of the world, but if you mention the name of their god in a way they don’t find complimentary, then you might just wake up to a burnt embassy and rioters protesting your remarks, video or what have you.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t subscribe to derogatory remarks about other faiths or their beliefs, what I don’t understand is how violence will re-enforce the fact that a particular religion is peace loving and accommodating.

It’s a bit like student mentality, where the protesting students burn down the science laboratory and one of their hostels because they don’t want the government to raise tuition fees or hostel fees, or cut bursaries or one thing or another. What happens when the flames go out? The government swiftly raises the fees in question and the students now lack a science laboratory and many of them have nowhere to live, possibly they will be levied for damages. Some call such actions ‘herd mentality’ but I’m not going to go there.

There’s this thing called human rights and I’m all for it, some of the rights are as follows:

There’s also the ‘rights of a child’ which must of necessity be accorded every child and we have a collective responsibility to ensure each child is accorded his or her rights.

But I truly begin to wonder whether society isn’t just a little broken when criminals are allowed to walk the streets of a nation undisturbed and in fact have their stay funded by tax payers on the grounds of ‘human rights’. Whereas innocent and law abiding people are deported on very flimsy excuses such as ‘their stay hasn’t been regularised’ even though they just recently finished serving that same country in Afghanistan.

I cannot but wonder aloud when one worker is ordered to remove his or her cross as it may offend while another is allowed to where a burka to the work place in the name of freedom of religion…….Maybe it has become an animal farm where some animals are more equal than others and some have more rights than others, I must say I’m still wondering…….

I think it’s time to ditch the ostrich mentality; it’s time to call a spade a spade! Christians are the one’s receiving the raw end of the stick and that is because their number one enemy the god of this world is on a rampage. He knows the end is close and he wants to cause maximum damage. He wants to drag Christians in the mud and make us look stupid. He wants to intimidate us. But collectively we shall not succumb to his antics.

Our God is real, He is alive and He’s the real deal, the way, the only way, the truth, the only truth and the life, the only source of eternal life.

The bible says we have the ministry of reconciliation and it’s up to us to bring real peace, love, hope and joy to a dying, hurting world.

A broken suffering world is hurting, nothing seems to be working. The economies of the world’s wealthiest nations are failing, foods supplies aren’t going round, oil and energy supplies are drying up and peace just seems to elude so many.

The stage is being set for that ‘man of perdition’ to be revealed. But before the church is taken out of the way we need to give one last ‘push’, we need to pray until something happens. We need to preach the Word; we need to lift high the name of our Saviour!

Yes, things may seemingly be broken, but there is one who can put a broken egg back together.

His name is Jesus; He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, he is the one who was, who is, and who is to come. He’s the same yesterday, today and forever, He never changes but He has the ultimate ability to change things.

The onus is on us to let the world know Jesus cares, and not only does He care He will do something about our situations if we allow Him to. He will take us and remould us and make us whole again. He’ll give us back hope, peace, tranquillity and a reason to live.

God will never give up on us and we must never give up on Him and His ability to save a lost and dying world. Let us take His message of love and declare it loud and clear. There is a way out of this rot, there is a way out of this mess, there is a way out of the dark situations not matter how bad they may be….. Jesus is the way!

May we be worthy messengers!

Catch you soon, LolaA

HOPE

H – Having

O – Only

P –Positive

E – Expectations

What are your expectations in life what are you gunning for?

Life tends to have a mix of all sorts of things, the good, the bad, the ugly, the pleasant, the unpleasant, the mundane, the exceptional and all sorts of other things thrown in for good measure.

Wikipedia defines hope as the emotional state which promotes the belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one’s life. It say’s despair is the opposite of hope.

I believe that hope is one of a number of essential ingredients that make for a successful life. Some of the others are hard work, commitment, dedication, focus, specific goals, specific time frames………………etc., etc.

Hope is great; it allows us to have positive emotions and a positive mental attitude. But just hoping things will turn out right doesn’t really cut it does it? Like it or not we actually have to go out there and put in the necessary effort to ensure our positive dreams become reality.

I’m sure any one of the Olympians / Paralympians will tell us it has taken years of hard work, years of training in the good times and in the bad, commitment to diets, sleep regimes and total focus on their desired outcomes for them to eventually stand on the podium and be hailed by millions. Some of their colleagues, who we may never hear anything about, may have fallen by the wayside. The going got a bit too tough for them and they gave up on their dreams, not being able to endure the stress.

Today I ask you what are your hopes, what are your dreams? Can you write them down make them concrete, tangible, which is often the first step in them becoming a reality!

The second question I ask you is, are you willing to give all that it takes to enable those hopes of today to become your reality of tomorrow?

One important thing is that our hopes and desires should be in line with what the Lord wants for us. The bible says in Proverbs 10:28 “The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish” (ESV).

It is the desire of our Father for us to succeed, but He wants us to do so in a way which is right by Him. He wants to be able to endorse our plans and thereby assure us of success.

So maybe the third question should be; will your hopes glorify the Father? If your answer is yes, then you can rest easy, knowing that one with God is majority and victory will surely be yours!

Summer is coming to an end and even 2012 has started seeking out its good-bye handkerchief, but we are not done yet. Your hopes for 2012 can still be fulfilled, so don’t give up, the hurdle may be a little high, but you can scale it, you can push through and come 31st December 2012 you can present yourself with your very own gold medal.

I wish you all the very best in your pursuits for the rest of this year and may your expectations never be cut off!

God bless, LolaA
